Hugh Chatham Behavioral Health Physician Appointed to State Commission On Mental Health, Developmental Disabilities, and Substance Abuse Services
Elkin, N.C. – Lee Bourgeois, MD, FAPA, a board-certified psychiatrist with Hugh Chatham Behavioral Health in Elkin, has been appointed to serve a three-year term on the North Carolina Commission on Mental Health, Developmental Disabilities and Substance Abuse Services.
The Commission, which operates under the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services, was created in 1973 as part of the Executive Organization Act. Its mission is to promote excellence in prevention, treatment and rehabilitation programs for people with mental illness, developmental disabilities, and substance abuse disorders in North Carolina. The Commission has the authority to adopt, amend and repeal rules to be used in the implementation of state and local mental health, developmental disability, and substance abuse service programs.
Dr. Bourgeois opened Hugh Chatham Behavioral Health in 2014 as a department of Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital. In his practice, he sees patients ages 18 and older with concerns that cover a broad spectrum of behavioral health issues.

Dr. Bourgeois, who holds board certification by the American Board of Psychiatry & Neurology, completed his residency at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, serving as Chief Resident.
